Let me sing until the end,” asks Elza Soares on the title track of her latest album A Mulher do Fim do Mundo (2015), which marks the 34th studio album of this unstoppable singer of 78 years of age, 60 of career. Holder of one the most extensive and important works in Brazilian music, since her first album, Se Acaso Você Chegasse (1960), Elza is acclaimed by her originality and constant reinvention, placing her distinctive voice in rhythms ranging from samba to classic, and even some beats coming from rap and electronic music.

In the new A Mulher do Fim do Mundo [The Woman of the End of the World], together with the names of Kiko Dinucci, Thiago França, Romulo Fróes, Marcelo Cabral, Celso Sim, Guilherme Kastrup and part of the members of Bixiga 70, Elza comes back transformed, intimately involved with the new generation of paulistano artists. From this involvement comes the “dirty” samba of São Paulo, mixed with the vibrant essence of Rio de Janeiro, land of this veteran star.

The album starts with Oswald de Andrade’s suave poem Coração do Mar, evolving into an insane game of arrangements and voices, influenced by distinct rhythms such as rock, afro-beat, tango and samba.

Born a classic, A Mulher do Fim do Mundo sounds as a reflexion of the singer’s creative call which, even if with a less vigorous voice, shows that there’s still plenty of fuel to shine. “I see myself as a wonderful entity burning itself, but alive, alive forever,” said the singer about the album’s release.
